...seems to be:

*Do not put your head up above the parapet

*Keep mum about what you really believe

*In order 'not to frighten the horses'

*At all costs - whatever else you do - don't stuff up our (presently excellent) chances at the upcoming general election...

...a cool, calculating approach to electoral politics is now all that is required, thank you very much...

Power - political power - at all costs is all that is demanded these days...

But didn't another once so memorably declare that

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

...though in the 'latter' instance, i.e. vis-a-vis Sissii International's determined and seemingly successful efforts to eradicate the wonderful cultural artifacts of the ancient city of Palmyra - much as its African cousins did in that classical(ly named) centre of pre-civilization, i.e. Timbuktu  - the historian tasked with keeping its museum etc was valiantly prepared to 'be faithful unto death' (as the Book of Revelation  might have put it) in defending it to the death (as it sadly ultimately proved)...
