Is the 'Solution' Becoming Even - a Whole Lot - Worse Than the Problem? Part Two
Having begun this line of reasoning back on March 25th, in a blogpost entitled 'Loathe as I am to Admit it...the 'Solution' May Well Be Worse Than the Problem', let me (in what's essentially Part Two of the same - however stretched out across the weeks)...
'simply' enumerate a catalog of such concerns...
*As the BBC this very morning informed listeners across the world, millions of kids worldwide are now missing out upon (life-saving) measles and rubella vaccinations
*Mental/psychological issues - brought on as a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis and subsequent lockdowns etcetera - are skyrocketing throughout not only God's Own/Godzone but doubtless around the globe
*Many senior citizens are - having effectively been pushed to the back of the queue, if not explicitly by governmental 'diktat'/edict, then practically-speaking by the heavy emphasis upon the coronavirus and pretty well "Steer clear!" message being constantly trumpeted over Western (anyhow) media over recent weeks - essentially foregoing and failing to get/receive potentially life-saving check-ups and operations, whilst the (in NZ, anyhow) small number of (eventually fatal) Covid cases take top priority
*Many other - and not necessarily especially frail - elderly are likewise failing to get their immune systems 'up-and-running' for the rapidly approaching winter (and 'flu) season by not managing to get out sufficiently for needed exercise, sunshine and fresh air...-as my Central Otago-based sister has informed me (vis-a-vis those she is personally acquainted with in this situation)...but as I've also heard a few anecdotal reports on talkback radio of...since they are understandably quite scared of community reaction thereto and/or are unable to keep in the digital-friendly communications loop which has now become so intolerantly dominant throughout the land
But perhaps a whole lot more worrying in the medium and longer term is that governments worldwide - especially those such as ours here in Aotearoa-New Zealand who have previously adhered to an admirable, even much-lauded, democratic tradition, are now rapidly developing an unnatural taste for despotism and authoritarianism...at least 'in miniature'...
...and sadly methinks it won't be just the likes of Trump et al who will one day find the intoxicating brew of such petty tyranny a little too hot to handle, or rather - in this case - release their grip upon.
